Sketchbook

Welcome to the Sketchbook Gallery. Here you will find not only hosted images of current works in progress but also images from projects born in the long forgotten past. There have been many comic-books/manga and other sequentials that never quite make it to full maturity and become real books that can be found, bought and held in the corporal realm. Sometimes this is because of other projects getting in the way. Other times, it’s simply not meant to be. Or realistically, because the property was utter shite.

All the same, this gallery presents foundings and foundlings from the sketchbooks and project folders of Aleister, including some pieces that are more finished than others. We hope you enjoy them as they are.

Misc & General:

Something done for Warren Ellis’ Remake Remodel Forum thread. The Woman with a Black Heart.

Monkey3030:

An upcoming project that may likely end up in actual animation instead of traditional sequential form. A complete reimagining of Journey to the West as inspired by underground Hip-Hop. The project name is derived from the more well known and shortened version of the original Chinese Story (Monkey) and Del’s much sought after concept album, Deltron 3030.

Back in the days of Profane Arcana Studios (with then partner Clinton ‘Fippo’ Rice, circa 2004-2005 before a fight with Arcana Studios in Canada. PAS no longer exists.), there was a dream of a new comic series that followed the misadventures of Highschool students in a cross town rivalry between the lead military academies of Heaven and Hell. Thus, the title: Brimstone Academy

The War on Flesh:

The War on Flesh was the to be the first professional comic outing after RSoM#3 from Tokyopop. As the process went on (and on, and on, and on, and on, and on… /sigh) it eventually went to someone else. However, Aleister was the first artist tapped to take on the duties of bringing the script to a visual incarnation (presented above are the ‘pencil test‘ pg’s and a quick ‘Char Design’ sheet). Obviously it didn’t pan out, and anyone who actually picked up a copy of the final book(s?) can decide/debate for themselves to their heart’s content.

HBSZC (Hyper Ballistic Slayer: Zombie Child):

Hyper Ballistic Slayer: Zombie Child (HBSZC) was a gore-comedy series pitched to Marvel Comics many, many, many moons ago, back in the day when they were trying to add another alternative imprint to their lineup. No one seems to know what happened to this thing, but it is known that:

1) Scripts still exist with entire pg & panel breakdowns somewhere in Aleister’s lair

2) Promotional Posters/Cards (the images above) were made to test reaction for the series before and during initial negotiations.

3) Somewhere there are also pencilled pg’s for the some of the series, but no one seems to know “where” exactly.

Whether it was simply not meant to be, or in direct connection to Aleister trying to side himself with Marvel and thereby greatly offending the multiverse, the imprint project died before the series was ever put passed the scripting stage. Perhaps, one day, it will begin again and breathe life anew… someday.
